Feeders
Room and Board for Compound Birds (2023)
Room and Board for Compound Birds was part of the yearlong exhibition “home/school/play/ground” at Compound Yellow in Oak Park, Illinois. The work consists of a handmade wooden bird feeder and a nesting box specifically designed for downy woodpeckers. With Compound Yellow being a wonderful open site for community engagement, Room and Board for Compound Birds focuses on the non-human part of that community, reaching out to the local bird populations and providing food and shelter and bringing the audience of the exhibition into a closer relationship with their non-human neighbors.
Loop Feeders (2021-2022)
Loop Feeders was a series of two different bird feeders installed in the Chicago Loop. They were my first attempt to bring bird feeding into my art practice and aimed to engage the School of the Art Institute of Chicago community with the local bird population.
Sticks for sale (2022)
Sticks for Sale was a performance at the Scranton Flea Market in the summer of 2022, as part of the Flea Market Project. The work consisted of offering shoppers the opportunity to purchase bug-ridden sticks to take home as woodpecker feeders, as well as giving away free nesting material to any birds who might be attending the flea market. After failing to garner any interest from the attendees, the work was purchased by J. Morgan Puett to take back to Mildred’s Lane, where the sticks were originally sourced from. The nesting material was dispersed into the flea market grounds and the sticks were later included in the exhibition “Everything Could Go” at the Mildred Complex(ity).
