Paintings, Tree Trunks, & Other Movable Things (2019)
Paintings, Tree Trunks, & Other Movable Things was a solo show at Gallery 5 in February of 2019. As the title suggests, the show consisted of paintings, installations, prints, drawings, and collections of found objects. Next to each piece was a hand written note attempting to describe where the object “came from,” both physically and pictorially. The result is a show that, through the notes, focuses on the history and identity of the work as much as the art itself. The accumulation of diverse pieces, each with their own unique genealogy, begins to question what it means to be “from” somewhere.
