Tiny Table Gallery began in the summer of 2022 as a collaborative project between me, Sophie Buchmueller, Kelly Johnston, and Alice Matthews, while taking part in the Abakanowicz Fellowship at Mildred’s Lane. Since returning to Chicago, the project has morphed into an artist-run exhibition venue that focuses on displaying small scale, three-dimensional work. The gallery “space” is a single salesman sample table that can easily travel between artists’ homes, outdoor parks, storefront windows, and anywhere that art should be. We strive to create a joyful, collaborative venue that affirms the importance of small art and provides a space for artists without the pressure of needing to fill an entire gallery.
So far, we have curated and organized three exhibitions, with opening events at Comfort Station, free range, and TUSK. So far, each show has begun with a one-night-only, in-person event in which each artwork is shown one at a time for a short duration on the table. Once an object’s time is up, a timer goes off and we switch it out with the next one. Following the event, we begin to upload documentation of each object to our Instagram page, giving each work a day or two in the spotlight before uploading the next. Below is a selection of images spanning our first three exhibitions, and please check out @tinytablegallery for more.
